He graduated in 1998 from Temple University – Kornberg School of Dentistry with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine Degree, during which time he was honored with the Delaware Valley Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Award for Oral Implantology, the Crest Award for Excellence in Preventive Dentistry for the Elderly, and the American Academy of Oral Medicine Award. He continued his foray into the medical field with his residency at the New York Medical College Department of Dentistry General Practice, Metropolitan Hospital Affiliation. Furthermore, Dr. David J. Poiman has received the Biotene Award for Excellence in Hospital Dentistry upon completion of the training. He is also a Fellow in Academy of General Dentistry, Fellow in World Clinical Laser Institute, and Fellow in Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry.
